Family begs judge to send dad to prison

Family member after family member stood up and railed against Ronald A. Dority at his sentencing Friday, telling Erie County Common Pleas Judge Tygh Tone that Dority must go to prison for the brutal kidnapping of his estranged wife.

The words carried weight with Tone, who sentenced the 44-year-old Bellevue man to 12 years in prison. He faced a maximum of 23 years behind bars.

Dority terrorized his now ex-wife Beth the night of June 16. He broke into her Herr Road home in Margaretta Township, where he found Beth in bed and choked her, according to police. He then dragged her to the garage, wrapped a chainsaw chain around her wrists, pushed her into a Chevrolet Suburban, then drove her around until he needed to stop for gas...

Death sentence for dad who killed 4 kids

A judge has ordered the death sentence for a Vietnamese refugee convicted of murdering four young children by tossing them from a 24-metre-high bridge to "torture" his wife.

Circuit Judge Charles Graddick handed down the death sentence to Lam Luong on Thursday and said he would order prison officials to show Luong photographs of the four children each day he is on death row.

Luong, 38, was convicted in March of killing the children on January 7, 2008. The unemployed shrimper was accused of dropping the four from atop the Dauphin Island Bridge after an argument with their mother, Kieu Phan, 23....

Victorville father allegedly attacks family with box cutter

A Victorville father who police said was under the influence of drugs and alcohol was arrested early this morning after he used a box cutter to threaten his girlfriend and injure his three young children.

Esteban Saracho, 29, nearly severed one of his children's fingers in the attack and left them with "several lacerations to their face, head or neck and their hands," according to a statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. Sheriff's deputies were called to the Red Roof Inn in the 13400 block of Mariposa Road about 1:40 a.m. today. They said Saracho had chased his girlfriend out of their hotel room and threatened her when she hid behind another couple.

When a man from another room emerged with a rifle to apparently stop the argument, Saracho locked himself in his room with his three children -- a 5-year-old, 3-year-old and 7-month-old, the sheriff's department said...

West Valley City man charged with attempted murder for assault on wife

A West Valley City man who allegedly fired a gunshot at his wife during a dispute has been charged with attempted murder.

The 34-year-old man began arguing with his wife Feb.5 at their home on the 2000 block of West Prichard Street (4015 South). During the argument the man pulled out a gun and fired it once at his wife, according to charging documents filed Tuesday in 3rd District Court.

The bullet narrowly missed the woman's ear and went into a wall. She tried to call 911 three times, but the man disabled the phone, charging documents state...

Darren Paul Martin is accused of trying to rape a female friend who went to his apartment at Park Place to offer aid when friends said he was “acting weird,” assaulting police who were called to the scene and trying to flee officers after he was handcuffed.

Ypsilanti man arrested in beating of girlfriend

A 19-hour manhunt ended tonight for an Ypsilanti man accused of bashing his teenage girlfriend's head in with a hammer or crowbar, police said.

Dominic D. Oyerinde, 20, was arrested on a charge of attempted murder. Officers found his 17-year-old girlfriend, of Ann Arbor, lying unconscious in the snow near a park entrance at Congress and Oakwood around 1:20 a.m. She was in critical condition this evening.

Fernando Morales, 22, was convicted Nov. 26 of assault likely to produce great bodily injury for the July 2007 attack at the victim's Coachella apartment.

Texas death row inmate pulls out eye, eats it

A Texas death row inmate with a history of mental problems pulled out his only good eye and told authorities he ate it. Andre Thomas, 25, was arrested for the fatal stabbings of his estranged wife, their young son and her 13-month-old daughter in March 2004. Their hearts also had been ripped out. He was convicted and condemned for the infant's death.

While in the Grayson County Jail in Sherman, Thomas plucked out his right eye before his trial later in 2004. A judge subsequently ruled he was competent to stand trial.

A death-row officer at the Polunsky Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice found Thomas in his cell with blood on his face and took him to the infirmary...More Here...
